13% of Gen Zers have said they decided to work less and put in less effort at work because of advice on TikTok

70% of Gen Zers encounter career advice on TikTok weekly, with nearly 1 in 10 trusting TikTok more than parents or colleagues for such advice. About 41% have made career decisions based on TikTok advice, with 1 in 10 even quitting their jobs based on it. Additionally, 15% have received job offers from opportunities they found on TikTok, showcasing its impact on their careers. Networking is also prevalent, with 4 in 5 Gen Zers using TikTok for this purpose.

According to Julia Toothacre, a resume and career strategist at Resume Builder, TikTok offers quick and easy-to-follow advice that can be implemented immediately. However, she warns that it's crucial to vet the advice-givers, suggesting checking LinkedIn and conducting web searches before acting, as there are individuals on TikTok providing misleading advice.
