67% of voters say Biden should step aside as the presumptive Democratic nominee
A majority of voters (67%) believe President Biden should step aside as the presumptive Democratic nominee, according to a new ABC News/Washington Post/Ipsos poll published Thursday.
Why it matters: This is another survey indicating that most voters think Biden should withdraw following his performance in last month's debate against former President Trump.
Recent polls from Morning Consult and CBS News found that 60% and 72% of voters, respectively, believe Biden should not run for re-election.
Other recent polls show Biden's standing against Trump slipping, with political forecasts tipping multiple crucial swing states in Trump's favor.
Context: Two weeks after the debate, Biden continues to face calls to step down from members of Congress, major donors, and other prominent Democrats.
Despite this, he has insisted he will remain in the 2024 presidential race.
By the numbers: Majorities across multiple groups — including Democrats and Democrat-leaning independents (62%) and people who have a favorable opinion of Biden personally (54%) — believe Biden should withdraw, according to the poll.
Among those who said they will vote for Biden in November, 81% believe he is too old for a second term, and only 44% said he should continue.
