Amazon ordered 100,000 vehicles from Rivian in 2019 and expects them to be part of its global fleet by 2030
Per Reuters
In 2019, Amazon made a huge order to buy 100,000 vehicles from Rivian, and so far, the company has only been able to launch a few EVs. The electric vans which were ordered are now being deployed in Germany.
More specifically, the electric vans will be deployed in Munich, Berlin, and Dusseldorf regions. The 300 electric vans are going to hit the road in the next few weeks.
Amazon is one of the biggest investors in Rivian, and as for the vans they'll use, the US variant to the EVs will be shorter and thinner compared to the ones used in Europe.
So far, Amazon has already committed over $1.1 billion to upgrade its current Europe fleet to electric ones. So far, the company already has over 3,000 vans in the US, getting it closer to its 100,000 Rivian vehicle goal by 2030.
Recently, Rivian became the latest company to adopt the Tesla charging standard, the North American Charging Standard (NACS). The company would then follow other major automobile giants like Ford and GM.
Rivian also recently had a small win as the EV company exceeded its Q2 estimates by delivering 12,640 vehicles compared to the expected 11,298. This resulted in the company's shares increasing by 9% during premarket trading.
