Americans spent over $113 billion on lottery tickets last year, more than they spent on movies, books, concerts and sports tickets, combined.

Revenue in the online lottery market is expected to surpass $5 billion in 2024, according to Statista Market Insights. In 2023, U.S. lottery sales exceeded $113 billion, as reported by the North American Association of State and Provincial Lotteries.

Sullivan noted, "We had four million-dollar winners in the last month. We've never seen this level of play before."

A Powerball ticket costs $2 and is available in 45 states, Washington D.C., Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. The most recent Powerball jackpot winner was in Michigan on New Year's Day, receiving over $840 million.

Since then, there have been 40 consecutive drawings without a jackpot winner. The upcoming 41st drawing on Saturday night could set a new record for the most drawings without a jackpot winner if the billion-dollar prize remains unclaimed.
