Apple, $AAPL, has announced a calculator app for the iPad
Apple unveiled the Calculator app for iPadOS 18 at the WWDC 2024 keynote this week. iPadOS 18 will introduce a range of improvements to all compatible iPad devices, with one of the most anticipated features being the Calculator app. iPad users can now access Apple's user-friendly calculator, previously available only on iPhones and Apple Watches. Another notable feature is Math Notes, which allows users to write down math equations in the app and have them solved instantly if correctly formatted.
The Calculator app has been a long-requested feature for the iPad, and its absence has puzzled many users. With the introduction of this app in iPadOS 18, users will finally have access to a simple yet essential function available on other Apple devices.
Apple, $AAPL, has also announced new formatting options for iMessage, including bold, italics, underlines, and strikethroughs.
In addition, Apple announced at the WWDC 2024 keynote on Monday that it is partnering with OpenAI to integrate ChatGPT into Siri. ChatGPT will be available for free in iOS 18 later this year without requiring an account, and Apple ensures that user queries won’t be logged. The popular chatbot will also be incorporated into Apple’s systemwide writing tools.
This long-awaited partnership comes as Apple aims to enhance its AI capabilities to rival those of other major tech companies. Apple had been negotiating with both Google and OpenAI to integrate their AI technology into its operating systems, ultimately choosing OpenAI.
