Apple, AAPL, may release a ‘mostly glass, curved iPhone’ in 2027
A recent report from The Information claims that at least one 2027 iPhone model will feature an under-display front-facing camera, allowing for a truly edge-to-edge screen. This aligns with a prior report from The Elec, which noted Apple is collaborating with display partners to develop a bezel-less iPhone—though notably, not one with a curved screen along the sides, as seen in previous designs by companies like Samsung and Vivo.
One particularly intriguing detail in Mark Gurman’s forecast is the mention of a “mostly glass, curved” iPhone. While current models like the iPhone 15 Pro are already largely glass—featuring metal only around the camera and a titanium frame—this description suggests a more radical design. It may reflect earlier Apple patents, such as a 2019 filing that outlined a device encased in glass forming a “continuous loop” around its body, pointing to a seamless, possibly fully-glass chassis.
In addition to design shifts, 2027 is shaping up to be a major year across Apple’s product lineup:
- A foldable iPhone is expected by that year, reaffirming past industry reports.
- Apple’s first smart glasses, set to compete with Meta’s Ray-Ban collaboration, are also projected for release.
- Additional products like camera-equipped AirPods and enhanced Apple Watches are reportedly in development for a 2027 debut.
Gurman also mentions a planned home robot, described as a tabletop device powered by an AI assistant with its own personality—echoing Apple’s internal experiments with robotic interfaces, such as the company’s whimsical AI-powered desk lamp prototype.
Finally, Apple may roll out a large language model-powered Siri by 2027, along with new AI server chips. This would build on developments reported by The Information in December, which noted that Apple’s Israel-based silicon design team, previously responsible for Apple Silicon chips, is now focused on designing processors to support advanced AI features server-side.
