Biden to announce another Ukraine aid package totaling $1.2 billion
The Biden administration is set to announce its final aid package under the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative (USAI), valued at approximately $1.2 billion, in the coming days, according to a Dec. 20 report from Reuters citing unnamed sources.
Since the start of the Biden presidency, the U.S. has provided over $60 billion in military aid to Ukraine. The USAI, a Pentagon-managed program, facilitates arms deliveries to Ukraine through contracts with American defense companies.
The upcoming package is expected to include air defense interceptors and artillery ammunition, one source told Reuters.
Additionally, the U.S. has been assisting Kyiv through the presidential drawdown authority (PDA), which allows Washington to supply military equipment directly from U.S. stockpiles. However, it remains unclear whether further PDA aid packages will be announced by the current administration.
On Dec. 17, The New York Times reported that the U.S. may run out of time to deliver the remaining $5.6 billion in PDA-allocated military aid to Ukraine before Donald Trump takes office next month.
Trump’s stance on Ukraine remains uncertain, as analysts and politicians attempt to interpret his pledge to bring peace to the region. Trump has promised to end the war within "24 hours" of reelection but has not provided specific details on how he plans to achieve this.
