Bill Gates of Microsoft, MSFT, has said the odds of another pandemic in the next 4 years are 10%-15%, and we’re not prepared

Bill Gates believes that another pandemic is very possible, and the world is not as prepared as it should be.

In an interview with the Wall Street Journal, the philanthropist was asked about his biggest concerns.

“The likelihood of a natural pandemic in the next four years is between 10 and 15%,” Gates responded. “And while it would be nice to think we’re better prepared than last time, the truth is, we’re not.”

When pressed further, the Microsoft co-founder reaffirmed his stance, saying, “We’re absolutely not.”

“Instead of reaching a consensus on what tools are still needed, people are mostly just revisiting the mistakes made,” Gates added. “I wouldn’t say we’re as advanced as we should be, especially considering the trillions of dollars spent and the millions of lives lost.”

Through the Gates Foundation, the billionaire has been raising alarms about climate change, cyber threats, and public health challenges, while also advocating for solutions.

In September, he warned that global instability could lead to a major war and that another pandemic was likely within the next 25 years.

In 2022, Gates published the book How to Prevent the Next Pandemic and expressed concern about the lack of preparation by governments, including the U.S., during the 2020 pandemic.

He also called for stronger quarantine measures, enhanced disease monitoring systems, and increased vaccine research and development. Additionally, the Gates Foundation committed up to $125 million in the U.S. to help end the acute phase of the COVID-19 pandemic and prepare for future pandemics.
