Bill Gates plans to continue his campaigns against climate change on his private jet

Per CNBC

Bill Gates has been busy with his philanthropy after his time at Microsoft. One of his focuses was on climate change, and last month, he explained why he would continue to do what he does while riding his private jet.

Gates talked about his work in an interview with BBC. This included questions on the charge of his campaign using a private jet. The Microsoft co-founder then explained why he was okay with continuing what he was doing.

Gates: "(I'm) comfortable with the idea that, not only am I not part of the problem by paying for the offsets, but also through the billions that my Breakthrough Energy Group is spending, that I’m part of the solution.”

He also gave a comment directly addressing what he was doing with the carbon footprint being left behind using his private jet. He mentioned how much he spent on climate innovation and why it was justifiable.

Gates: “Well, I buy the gold standard of, funding Climeworks, to do direct air capture that far exceeds my family’s carbon footprint... And I spend billions of dollars on ... climate innovation. So, you know, should I stay at home and not come to Kenya and learn about farming and malaria?”

The Microsoft co-founder also gave his comments earlier this year regarding fake meat. He noted that it would actually be very good and that he believes that the world can still avoid a terrible outcome.

Gates also argued that the solution to climate change isn't requesting people not to eat meat. He noted that instead of that, there should be innovations for new and better solutions.

In 2021, a study by the Nature Food journal found that worldwide food systems were responsible for 35% of global anthropogenic greenhouse gasses. Animal-based food was only responsible for 57% of the total food systems' global gasses.
