Boeing, $BA, whistleblower John Barnett's attorneys on his suicide news, per ABC: "We didn't see any indication he would take his own life. No one can believe it."
Boeing, $BA, overwrote surveillance footage from the repair facility where a door plug was reinstalled ahead of the blowout on an Alaska Airlines flight earlier this year, NTSB chair says per ABC.
The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) announced on Tuesday that it will conduct a two-day investigative hearing on the Alaska Airlines door plug incident.
Scheduled for August 6 and 7, the hearing's location and other details will be disclosed later, according to the NTSB.
Alaska Airlines Flight 1282 experienced the door plug detachment shortly after departing from Portland International Airport on January 5. Passengers captured footage showing a hole where the door plug had come loose on the Boeing 737 Max 9 aircraft. The plane made an emergency landing safely, and there were no serious injuries reported.
Following the incident earlier this year, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) grounded approximately 171 Max 9s worldwide. Alaska Airlines resumed Boeing 737 Max 9 flights on January 26 after conducting fleet inspections.
According to an NTSB preliminary report released last month, four bolts intended to prevent the door plug from detaching were missing before the plug blew off during the flight.
The FAA has completed an audit of Boeing's production and manufacturing processes in response to the door plug incident, the agency announced on Tuesday. The audit revealed "non-compliance issues in Boeing's manufacturing process control, parts handling and storage, and product control," the FAA said in a statement.
Due to the ongoing investigation, no further details are currently available, the FAA stated.
Boeing stated that it is "continuing to implement immediate changes and develop a comprehensive action plan to enhance safety and quality, and build the confidence of our customers and their passengers" in response to the audit.
Boeing Commercial Airplanes President and CEO Stan Deal informed employees in a notice sent on Tuesday that the "vast majority of our audit non-compliances involved not following our approved processes and procedures."
According to three sources familiar with the matter who spoke to ABC News last month, the Justice Department is also investigating the Alaska Airlines incident.
