Bank of America VP Erin Piacenti, 32, was killed in a random Times Square stabbing on Monday. NYPD shot and killed the suspect, 49-year-old Pamela Cisneros, who had a documented mental health history.
A Bank of America vice president was killed in a random stabbing attack in Times Square on Monday afternoon, an incident that briefly shut down one of the busiest intersections in the country. The second-biggest U.S. lender confirmed the death on Tuesday, calling it a random incident that took place in broad daylight in the heart of the city’s tourist industry.
What happened
Erin Piacenti, a 32-year-old vice president at Bank of America, was stabbed in the stomach and later pronounced dead at the hospital, the NYPD told reporters Monday night. Piacenti was a vice president of business selection and conflicts at the bank, according to a LinkedIn profile.
NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch said the attack, which took place on Monday around 4:24 p.m. ET in the vicinity of West 42 Street and Seventh Avenue, appeared to be random and unprovoked. A 68-year-old man also injured in the attack was in stable condition in hospital.
The suspect
The NYPD said when officers arrived on the scene they found Pamela Cisneros, a 49-year-old woman, who was brandishing two large knives and advanced toward officers. Officers shot Cisneros, and she was later pronounced dead.
While Cisneros had no criminal record, she had multiple police interactions involving mental health episodes, Tisch said.

Bank of America response
Bank of America’s president of Global Corporate and Investment Banking Matthew Koder described Piacenti as a “cherished teammate and friend” in an internal memo seen by Reuters.
The bank told employees it was shocked and saddened by the loss, calling Piacenti a valued teammate. There is no indication the attack was targeted at the bank or its employees.
Context on NYC crime
Major crime complaints in New York City are down 6.2% year-to-date when compared to the same window of time in 2025, according to police data, which notes murders are down 24.6%. Two murders have been recorded in the Midtown South Police Precinct, which incorporates Times Square, this year as of August.
Random daylight attacks in Midtown, however, tend to draw outsized attention from tourism-dependent businesses, retailers, and corporate employers with large Manhattan footprints.
