California earthquake and Tsunami alert
This morning, a tsunami warning was issued and later canceled for the Pacific coast following a series of nine earthquakes near Northern California.
Among the quakes was a magnitude 7 event that initially prompted the warning. The U.S. Tsunami Warning System has since declared the threat over, lifting the advisory that had extended as far as the Oregon coastline.
The strongest quake struck offshore southwest of Eureka at approximately 10:44 AM, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. It occurred at a depth of less than one kilometer and was followed by eight smaller tremors over the next hour.
These events come after a 5.6 magnitude earthquake and several smaller quakes in Alaska last night.
No damages have been reported, and none are expected from any of the earthquakes.
