Anthropic CEO Amodei's Wife Cami Clark Pitched Epstein on Porn Startup

Cami Clark, the wife of Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei, reportedly pitched convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein on investing in what she called a “revolutionary porn company,” according to Wall Street Journal reporting and emails released by the Justice Department. The story lands as Anthropic preps a potential multi-trillion-dollar IPO, putting Clark's influence over her husband and the company under a microscope.

What the emails show

Per the WSJ investigation, Clark communicated with Epstein for several years while trying to get the deceased sex criminal and accused sex trafficker to invest in her women-focused porn company. Clark reached out to Epstein in March 2011 after being introduced to him by John Brockman, a literary agent who helped connect Epstein with scientists and tech figures.

A week after an initial dinner overture, Clark sent Epstein an attachment with the script and treatment for her first four films, “American Girl in Paris,” noting it was “a little nsfw.” Epstein, who by then was a registered sex offender, replied, “Can't do sex TV,” and by 2013 the company, Eddice, appeared to have folded.

Why this matters for Anthropic

Clark doesn't have a job at Anthropic, but she's thought to be one of the most influential figures at the company, steering Amodei's decisions and helping him liaise with politicians and investors. The Journal describes her as a “sounding board and strategic adviser” for Amodei and Anthropic, and notes she married him in 2022 after previously dating former Google chief Eric Schmidt.

The report drops as Anthropic is trying to woo potential investors ahead of the planned IPO, making this a crucial moment for Amodei's leadership, and potentially Clark's counsel.

The IPO backdrop

Anthropic, the maker of the Claude family of models, is heading toward one of the most anticipated listings in tech. Any headline that raises governance or reputational questions around the CEO's inner circle is the kind of thing pre-IPO investors tend to price in.

The story also lands as the Epstein files and Epstein's relationships continue to attract widespread attention, following the DOJ releasing thousands of files publicly earlier this year, with those linked to the late financier facing scrutiny, though many high-profile figures Epstein was known to associate with have never been accused of wrongdoing.
