Lululemon Founder Chip Wilson Divorcing Wife Summer, No Prenup
Lululemon founder Chip Wilson is divorcing wife Shannon Summer Wilson with no prenup, adding an overhang to LULU after the stock’s 17% drop on a cut guide.
Lululemon founder Chip Wilson is divorcing his wife and longtime business partner Shannon “Summer” Wilson after more than two decades of marriage, and there is no prenup. The timing lands right as LULU is coming off one of its worst sessions in years.
What is happening
Chip Wilson, the billionaire founder of Lululemon Athletica, is divorcing from Shannon “Summer” Wilson, his wife and business partner of more than 20 years, who was one of the apparel company’s earliest employees. Wilson, 71, is one of Canada’s most successful entrepreneurs, with a fortune valued at $6.1 billion, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index.
The couple filed in the Supreme Court of British Columbia without a prenuptial agreement in place, putting their substantial corporate stakes and multi-billion-dollar portfolio under legal review. Legal proceedings were initially filed in April.
Why traders care
The divorce comes as Lululemon faces a difficult stretch in its business and on Wall Street. Lululemon shares plunged more than 17% on Friday, after the company cut its full-year sales outlook, sending the stock toward its lowest level in about eight years.
With no prenup, a Canadian court will decide how a fortune tied to LULU shares and other equity positions gets divided. That is an overhang on an already wounded name.

The bigger portfolio
Beyond Lululemon, Wilson owns roughly 18% of Amer Sports, the Finnish owner of brands including Arc’teryx. That holding is worth almost $3 billion. Any forced sale or block trade to fund a settlement could hit tape in either name.
Wilson recently ended a public proxy battle with Lululemon after securing board nominees as part of a truce with the company. Under the agreement, he also agreed not to publicly disparage Lululemon for about 18 months. That governance backdrop makes any change to his stake or voting posture worth tracking.
Options market and stocks to watch
LULU: watch for continued volatility after Friday’s guide-down and any headlines around how Wilson’s stake gets treated in the split. Implied vol and skew are the tell.
AMER: watch for flow tied to Wilson’s roughly 18% Amer Sports position, since a settlement could touch this holding too.
NKE: watch as a relative-value pair. If LULU keeps bleeding on brand and governance noise, athletic-apparel peers get scrutinized either way.
