Costco will switch food court sodas from Pepsi, $PEP, to Coca-Cola, $KO, in the summer

Costco Drops Pepsi for Coke in Food Court Shake-Up

Costco is flipping the script on a common cliché—Pepsi is out, and Coke is back in.

CEO Ron Vachris announced during the company's shareholder meeting on Thursday that Costco will soon switch its food court fountains back to Coca-Cola products.

The announcement followed a shareholder’s question about rumors of the change.

"This summer, we will be converting our food court fountain business back over to Coca-Cola," Vachris confirmed.

Costco originally switched from Coca-Cola to Pepsi in 2013 to help keep the $1.50 hot dog combo at its famous low price. But despite the latest soda shake-up, CFO Gary Millerchip reassured shareholders that "the $1.50 hot dog price is safe."

Costco Rejects Anti-DEI Proposal Amid Coke Announcement

The Coca-Cola news came at the same shareholder meeting where Costco overwhelmingly rejected an anti-DEI proposal.

More than 98% of shares voted against the measure, according to preliminary results shared by Chairman Hamilton James. Costco’s board had urged shareholders to reject the proposal, which targeted the company's diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) policies.

"Our success is built on the dedication of over 300,000 employees who serve our members daily," James said. "It's crucial that they feel included and valued, and that these values are reflected in how we serve our customers."

The decision was applauded by DEI advocates, especially amid the wave of corporate rollbacks following President Donald Trump’s return to office.

In response, Rev. Al Sharpton led a "buy-in" at an East Harlem Costco warehouse, encouraging supporters to spend money at businesses maintaining DEI policies.

"Costco has stood firm, proving that doing the right thing is also smart business," Sharpton wrote on X (formerly Twitter). "We will boycott those who abandon DEI, but we will uplift and support the companies that stand with us."
