Credit Suisse, CS, whistleblowers say it has been helping wealthy Americans avoid paying US taxes
Credit Suisse, CS, whistleblowers say it has been helping wealthy Americans avoid paying US taxes, per CNBC.
The Senate Finance Committee aid it had uncovered "major violations" of the 2014 agreement between the Swiss lender and the U.S. Department of Justice (DoJ) for enabling tax evasion.
Wyden said: "At the center of this investigation are greedy Swiss bankers and catnapping government regulators, and the result appears to be a massive, ongoing conspiracy to help ultra-wealthy U.S. citizens to evade taxes and rip off their fellow Americans."
Credit Suisse in 2014 became the largest bank in 20 years to plead guilty to a U.S. criminal charge, agreeing to pay a $2.5 billion fine for helping Americans evade taxes in a conspiracy that spanned decades.
They reportedly helped hide nearly $100 million from the US and let the tax evasion continue undetected for almost a decade.
Recently CS was taken over by UBS.
