Democrats Vow Trump Family Business Probes if They Win Congress

Democrats plan to subpoena Trump family business deals, ballroom donors, and crypto ventures if they win the House or Senate in November, per Reuters. Probes could begin as early as February.

Democrats are lining up investigations into Trump family business dealings should they flip either chamber of Congress in November, according to a Reuters report. The plans put ballroom donors, crypto ventures, and Donald Trump Jr.’s 1789 Capital squarely in the crosshairs.

What Democrats are targeting

Corporate donors to President Donald Trump’s ballroom and participants in business deals brokered by Trump family members are expected to be among the first targets of investigations if Democrats take control of the House or Senate in November’s midterm elections, according to Capitol Hill staffers, lawmakers and attorneys who spoke with Reuters.

The investigations could examine corporate donors to President Donald Trump’s proposed White House ballroom and deals involving his family members. Potential areas include cryptocurrency ventures and Donald Trump Jr.’s venture capital firm, 1789 Capital.

Subpoena power on the table

Control of either chamber would give Democrats subpoena power and funding to bolster investigative staff, enabling them to launch probes as early as February and potentially triggering lengthy legal battles that would place the Trump family business empire squarely in the spotlight.

Senator Richard Blumenthal, who is in line to chair an investigations panel, told Reuters: “We will use our subpoena power, absolutely,” if Democrats win control of the Senate in November.

Companies already lawyering up

Reuters reported that some businesses were already preparing for possible congressional scrutiny by hiring lawyers and crisis communications firms. 1789 Capital hired top law firm Quinn Emanuel to handle congressional investigations and is already signaling its intention to rebuff Democratic inquiries.

In a previously unreported July 1 letter seen by Reuters, ballroom contractor Clark Construction responded to a request about “ballooning costs” from Blumenthal by saying terms of the deal required all information come from the White House.

The bigger backdrop

The investigations could dominate the second half of Trump’s term after two years of dealmaking in which the Trump family expanded into crypto, drones, artificial intelligence and prediction markets, while the president’s personal wealth grew by an estimated $2.2 billion.

The plans remain conditional because the November election has not yet taken place. There is also no definitive list of companies or transactions that Democrats would investigate.

Options market and stocks to watch

Watch for headline sensitivity across names tied to the Trump business orbit and adjacent themes:

DJT: Trump Media is the most direct proxy for Trump-brand political risk. Watch for volatility around any subpoena headlines or midterm polling shifts.

COIN and HOOD: Given the reported focus on Trump-family crypto ventures, watch crypto-exposed names for spillover if probes expand into industry practices or prediction markets.

Defense and drone contractors and prediction-market plays could also see flow if investigators zero in on Pentagon-linked deals referenced in the Reuters report.
