Donald Trump admitted he did receive money from foreign governments such as China while president, as his business was providing a "service" for them, per Newsweek.
During a Fox News town hall on Wednesday night, Donald Trump acknowledged receiving money from foreign governments, including China, during his presidency. Trump defended himself against accusations from a recent report by House Oversight Committee Democrats, which claimed he accepted payments from countries like China, Saudi Arabia, and Qatar while in office.
The report alleged violations of the U.S. Constitution's foreign emoluments clause, contending that Trump's real estate company received $7.8 million from 20 countries during his presidency, including at least $5.5 million from China. Trump countered, stating that when people from China stayed at his hotels, it was for the services provided rather than a significant amount of money.
The report, titled "White House for Sale: How Princes, Prime Ministers, and Premiers Paid Off President Trump," accused Trump of receiving lavish payments from foreign countries while making policy decisions with implications for the United States.
