Driver’s licenses and state IDs in Apple, $AAPL, Wallet are coming to California
Californians will soon be able to store their driver’s licenses and state IDs in Apple Wallet, offering a streamlined and secure method to present these documents using only an iPhone or Apple Watch.
“We’re thrilled to partner with the state of California to bring IDs to Apple Wallet in our home state,” said Jennifer Bailey, Apple’s vice president of Apple Pay and Apple Wallet. “This integration will provide residents with a simple, secure, and private way to present their California driver’s license and state ID both in person and within apps using Apple Wallet. Whether you’re navigating through travel or verifying your age or identity at businesses, California driver’s licenses and state IDs in Apple Wallet will make ID presentation seamless, with the added security of iPhone and Apple Watch.”
Users with an ID in Apple Wallet can present their credentials at select TSA security checkpoints and businesses, as well as in certain apps for age or identity verification.
Security and Privacy
Apple Wallet leverages the privacy and security features inherent to iPhone and Apple Watch to safeguard users' identities and personal information. When adding an ID to Apple Wallet, only the information necessary for the state-issuing authority to approve or deny the addition of the driver’s license or state ID is transmitted.
