Elon Musk has said that he will drop lawsuit against OpenAI if they change their name to ClosedAI.


The billionaire entrepreneur recently filed a lawsuit against the creator of ChatGPT, OpenAI, and its CEO Sam Altman, alleging a breach of their original contractual agreements related to AI.

In response, OpenAI pushed back against Musk's claims, stating that discussions about a for-profit structure were aimed at advancing their mission. They indicated that Musk sought either a merger with Tesla or complete control of OpenAI.

"We're sharing some facts about our relationship with Elon Musk, and we intend to move to dismiss all of his claims," OpenAI stated on its platform. Musk then replied, suggesting that OpenAI change its name to "ClosedAI," implying he would drop the lawsuit in that case.

Musk also criticized OpenAI, stating that the organization needed to "stop living a lie" in response to a post on the platform.

In a recent blog post, OpenAI alleged that Musk had sought "majority equity, initial board control, and to be CEO," but discussions fell through when he withheld funding. The co-founders of OpenAI, including Greg Brockman, Ilya Sutskever, John Schulman, Sam Altman, and Wojciech Zaremba, explained that they could not agree to Musk's terms for a for-profit entity because it conflicted with their mission to prevent any individual from having absolute control over OpenAI.

Musk parted ways with OpenAI, stating the need for a viable competitor to Google/DeepMind and his intention to pursue this endeavor independently. He expressed his support for OpenAI in finding its own path.
