EO Larry Ellison said that AI technology will soon be able to design personalized mRNA vaccines for every individual to combat cancer
Larry Ellison: Oracle’s AI Project Stargate Aims to Develop Cancer Vaccine
Oracle founder Larry Ellison has revealed that the Stargate artificial intelligence (AI) project—a massive AI infrastructure initiative launched in collaboration with OpenAI and SoftBank—is playing a critical role in the development of a cancer vaccine.
Trump Announces Historic AI Initiative
The Stargate project was announced this week by President Donald Trump, with Oracle, OpenAI, and SoftBank partnering to build advanced AI-powered data centers across the United States.
Ellison, who also serves as Oracle’s chief technology officer, emphasized that AI-driven advancements from OpenAI and SoftBank are pushing forward cancer vaccine research.
"One of the most exciting things we're working on—again using the tools that Sam (Altman) and Masa (Masayoshi Son) are providing—is our cancer vaccine," Ellison said during a news conference with Trump in the Roosevelt Room at the White House on Tuesday.
AI-Powered Early Cancer Detection and Custom Vaccines
Ellison highlighted how AI technology can analyze simple blood tests to detect early-stage cancers, potentially saving lives.
"AI can examine a blood test and identify cancers that pose serious health risks," he explained.
Beyond early detection, gene sequencing of cancer tumors allows for personalized vaccines tailored to each patient’s specific cancer.
"Once you gene-sequence that cancer tumor, you can design a vaccine specifically for that person," Ellison continued. "Using AI, you can manufacture that mRNA vaccine robotically in about 48 hours."
He described this breakthrough as the future of AI in medicine:
"Imagine early cancer detection, a vaccine designed for your specific cancer, and having that vaccine ready within 48 hours. This is the promise of AI and the future of medicine."
$100 Billion AI Investment with Plans to Expand
The Stargate project will launch with a $100 billion investment, with plans to expand to $500 billion over the next four years.
- The first AI-powered data center will be built in Texas, with additional locations planned across the United States.
- Trump called it "the largest AI infrastructure project, by far, in history."
Trump’s Push for Private Investment
As part of his economic agenda, Trump has been courting private business investments to bolster U.S. technology and job growth.
- Last month, SoftBank CEO Masayoshi Son joined Trump to announce a separate $100 billion U.S. investment aimed at creating 100,000 new jobs.
With Oracle, OpenAI, and SoftBank leading the charge, Stargate’s AI-driven breakthroughs could redefine medicine, job creation, and U.S. technological dominance in the coming years.
