EU approves ban of fossil fuel cars by 2035.

The European Parliament and the EU countries have agreed to mandate that carmakers achieve a 100% cut in CO2 emissions by 2035. This would make it impossible for them to sell new fossil fuel-powered vehicles within the 27-country block.

The deal also includes a 55% CO2 emissions cut for new cars sold from 2030 compared to 2021 levels. This is higher than its initial target of a 37.5% reduction.

Smaller car manufacturers producing below 10,000 vehicles per year can negotiate weaker targets until 2036 when they must hit the zero-emission requirement.

This now has officially been ratified.
