Federal buildings have been told to shut off EV chargers

Federal buildings across the U.S. have been directed to shut down electric vehicle charging stations, according to a source familiar with the decision. The move marks the latest rollback of pro-EV policies under President Donald Trump’s administration.

The General Services Administration (GSA), which manages federal properties and vehicle fleets, recently informed agencies of the plan via email, the source said. Federally owned charging stations—used for both government vehicles and employees’ personal cars—will no longer be classified as "mission critical," according to the GSA.

The agency, which operates independently, has not yet responded to requests for comment.

Trump’s administration has taken swift action to reverse electric vehicle policies implemented under former President Joe Biden, making it a core part of its economic agenda. Earlier this month, the Department of Transportation’s Federal Highway Administration announced it would suspend federal funding for EV chargers along U.S. highways.
