China's Xi Jinping and France's Emmanuel Macron have met to discuss countless topics, including Russia and Ukraine. Aside from this, the two even discussed deals regarding energy, involving nuclear and renewable energy, specifically wind.
This happened during Macron's visit to China, which resulted in the signing of several deals regarding energy. Two major nuclear plant operators of the two countries, EDF of France and CGN of China have signed a new deal to renew their partnership.
Aside from this, CNN noted that Macron was counting on Xi Jinping to "reason" with Russia. The intent was for Xi Jinping to help end the war in Ukraine potentially.
Macron said that Russia effectively ended the peace in Europe, which went on for decades. He also gave a statement as to why China should take the matter seriously and act on the situation.
Macron: "(The war is) an important issue for China, as much as it is for France and for Europe.”
Throughout the conflict, China has maintained its neutrality claim and said that they want to be an "agent of peace." So far, Xi has not condemned Russia and continues its diplomatic and economic ties with the country.
Macron: “We do not simply want an end to the conflict, but respect for Ukrainian sovereignty and territorial integrity, which is the only condition for lasting peace,”
