Navigator Poll: 31% of Gen Z Trump Voters Regret Their Vote

A Navigator poll finds 31% of Gen Z voters who backed Trump in 2024 now regret it, with affordability and the Iran conflict driving the shift ahead of the 2026 midterms.

Navigator Poll: 31% of Gen Z Trump Voters Regret Their Vote

A new Navigator poll shows buyer’s remorse setting in with the youngest slice of Trump’s 2024 coalition, and the number is not small. Thirty-one percent of Generation Zers who voted for President Trump say they regret it, a recent Navigator poll reports.

The Numbers

Regret climbs highest with the youngest voters and fades with age. Millennials followed at 28 percent, with 20 percent of Generation Xers and 10 percent of baby boomers saying they regret backing Trump, too.

The Navigator study sampled 3,000 registered voters from June 4-July 27, with a margin of error of 2.2 percentage points.

Why It Matters for 2026

It’s another sign of the dismal polling Trump and the GOP are facing as Republican lawmakers brace for this fall’s midterm elections. Gen Z mattered in 2024, and losing even a slice of that bloc reshapes House and Senate math.

Trump won 42 percent of voters born in the 1990s and 2000s, according to Pew Research Center, compared with former Vice President Kamala Harris’s 55 percent.

The Economy Is the Wedge

The regret is not abstract. It is affordability. Fifty percent of voters between the ages of 18-44 said they disapproved of Trump’s handling of the economy but also do not trust Democrats on the issue.

Trump has the lowest approval rating among Generation Z, with only 33 percent of voters saying they either strongly approve or somewhat approve of the way he is handling his job as president.

Generation Z is also the most pessimistic about the direction of the country, with a net of -42 saying the country is headed in the right direction, compared with Millennials at net -35, Generation X at net -34, and Baby Boomers at net -27.

Foreign Policy Adds Pressure

Trump’s war against Iran continues to be deeply unpopular, with 52 percent of respondents saying they either strongly or somewhat oppose the military action. That is another drag on a coalition that came in expecting a domestic focus.

Options Market and Stocks to Watch

Political shifts this large tend to translate into policy risk. Traders should watch names most exposed to affordability, tariff policy, and midterm outcomes.

  • DJT: Trump Media remains the most direct proxy for Trump-cycle sentiment and midterm polling swings.
  • WMT: Watch for consumer commentary on affordability, which is the issue driving Gen Z regret.
  • TGT: Same setup, with heavier discretionary exposure if lower-income and younger consumers pull back.
  • LMT: Defense names remain sensitive to shifts in public support for the Iran posture and any midterm-driven appropriations changes.
  • META: Youth political engagement runs through its platforms, and ad-spend cycles tend to spike into contested midterms.
