11% of US Adults Now Take a GLP-1 for Weight Loss, Gallup Finds
One in nine US adults now takes a GLP-1
About 11% of U.S. adults now take a GLP-1 drug for weight loss, roughly 28 million people, according to Gallup.
That is nearly four times the 3% who reported taking one in 2024. Gallup's National Health and Well-Being Index put current use at 8% in 2025 before it climbed to 11% this year.
Another 15% of adults say they have used one of the drugs at some point. Awareness has climbed to 91%, up from 80% two years ago.
The health data is moving with it
The U.S. adult obesity rate has fallen from a record 39.9% in 2022 to 36.4% in 2026, over the same period that GLP-1 use surged.
Gallup based the findings on a survey of 5,065 U.S. adults conducted from May 28 to June 5, 2026, and released the index on July 7, 2026.
Access may widen further. A federal Medicare GLP-1 Bridge program began July 1, offering eligible Part D enrollees certain approved drugs at a $50 monthly copayment through the end of 2027.

How this could hit the options market
This is a volume story for the drugmakers. Sustained double digit adoption supports demand for LLY and NVO, the two dominant names in the class, and for suppliers and pharmacies that fill the scripts, including AMGN as a challenger.
The other side of the trade is just as active. Bariatric surgery volumes, sleep apnea devices, and some food and beverage names have all traded on GLP-1 adoption fears, so watch flow in ISRG and consumer staples if usage keeps climbing.
Medicare coverage is the next catalyst. Any expansion or cut to the Bridge program would move estimates quickly.
