Goldman Sachs believes 300 million full-time jobs could be impacted by AI platforms like ChatGPT

There has been growing talk of fears over artificial intelligence potentially replacing many jobs humans used to do. Goldman Sachs economists have released their estimates, saying up to 300 million full-time jobs could be affected.
To be specific, the firm expects AI to affect up to 300 million full-time jobs worldwide, and not just in the US. They specified that this could be due to how the jobs could be automated with the help of artificial intelligence, with ChatGPT being given as an example.
The report said that advanced economies could be more affected by the rise of artificial intelligence. They predict that up to 18% of the global workforce "could be computerized."
It was noted that the risks were directed more toward white-collar workers instead of manual laborers. In the US and Europe alone, they estimate that two-thirds of jobs could already be at risk.
This report comes shortly after OpenAI revealed its new software, GPT-4, which is an upgrade of the current one that people are using. The upgraded artificial intelligence has already made headlines for its ability to simplify coding, pass exams, or even create a website from a sketch.
The Goldman Sachs economists expect the further use of artificial intelligence to affect the job market.
“Most workers are employed in occupations that are partially exposed to AI automation and, following AI adoption, will likely apply at least some of their freed-up capacity toward productive activities that increase output.”
Despite being a cofounder of OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT, Elon Musk said that artificial intelligence poses "one of the biggest risks to civilization." He mentioned how it could threaten humanity's survival.
Aside from his comments, Musk has also approached AI researchers recently to potentially form a new research lab to develop a ChatGPT alternative.
