Google, $GOOGL, has quietly launched an internal AI model named 'Goose' to help employees write code faster, per BI.

According to internal documents reviewed by Business Insider, Goose is a tool exclusively for employees, aimed at facilitating the development of new products.

The documents characterize Goose as a "descendant of Gemini," Google's significant new large language model. Goose is trained on 25 years' worth of engineering knowledge from Google, as stated in one of the documents.

Described as having the capability to answer questions related to Google-specific technologies, write code using internal tech stacks, and support unique features such as editing code based on natural language inputs, Goose is intended to enhance productivity and efficiency in product development.

Google's internal use of AI is seen as a crucial element in its recent drive for efficiency, which has led to the elimination of thousands of jobs over the past year and various team reorganizations. During the company's recent earnings call, Google's finance chief Ruth Porat hinted at such initiatives, stating that Google was focused on curbing expense growth through measures such as streamlining operations across Alphabet using AI.

One internal document indicates that Goose is part of a broader strategy to integrate AI into every phase of the product development process.

In addition to Goose, Google employs AI in various other areas to improve efficiency. For instance, it uses AI to reduce the energy required to cool its data centers. Furthermore, Google is encouraging advertisers to use AI-driven automated products to optimize their spending across Google's platforms.

Despite these advancements, Google asserts that AI is not displacing jobs. According to Philipp Schindler, Google's chief business officer, the company is not restructuring due to AI replacing jobs.
