Per Tech Radar

Although Google didn't have much success with the launch of its Bard AI due to misinformation, the company is now finding other ways to compete. Now, the company is partnering with Replit to combine artificial intelligence with the startup's software to create an AI-powered GitHub competitor.

While many people know ChatGPT for its ability to answer questions, another field where the tool can be used is coding. Now, Google Cloud is partnering with Replit, an AI-powered code collaboration platform, to create tools to rival those of OpenAI regarding coding.

Per the blog post, the partnership with Google Cloud was said to be the next big move since Replit already had 20 million developers. The main goal was to realize the company's mission of achieving 1 billion software creators using their technology.

"Under the new partnership, Replit developers will get access to Google Cloud infrastructure, services, and foundation models via Ghostwriter, Replit's software development AI, while Google Cloud and Workspace developers will get access to Replit’s collaborative code editing platform."

The partnership would reportedly give Replit developers global access to Google Cloud infrastructure and Vertex AI, which hosts Google's foundation model. This comes as Google Cloud is trying to enable companies to accelerate the process of AI adaption.

June Yang, VP, Cloud AI, and Industry Solutions at Google Cloud, gave a statement regarding the partnership and what Google will bring to the table.

Yang: "Google Cloud infrastructure and foundation models in Vertex AI will power Replit’s widely-adopted platform, delivering more performance and scalability to millions of developers around the world.”

Recently, Goldman Sachs economists said that up to 300 million full-time jobs worldwide could be affected by AI.

With the widespread popularity of AI, Elon Musk has reportedly approached AI researchers to potentially form a new research lab to develop a ChatGPT alternative.
