Google reports inaccurate info coming from AI chatbot Bard, saying James Webb Space Telescope took first exoplanet pictures
Per Reuters
Google is trying to compete with OpenAI's ChatGPT and has recently announced its Apprentice Bard. Now, the company shared that its AI gave inaccurate information in company advertisements.
This came at a time when Alphabet's company is trying to compete with Microsoft, which invested heavily in OpenAI. As part of its $10 billion investment, Microsoft will be adding ChatGPT to its Bing, a competing browser.
ChatGPT recorded a whopping 100 million monthly active users in January as OpenAI expanded its hiring efforts to help improve the AI tool's code.
While Google still dominates with its Chrome, the announcement of ChatGPT coming to Bing resulted in the company revealing its investment into Bard, an AI competitor. However, the company reported inaccuracies in the AI chatbot.
This came as Google posted a tweet with a GIF that showed how Bard was supposed to function. Here was the question that was presented in the GIF.
Q: "What new discoveries from the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) can I tell my 9-year old about?"
Multiple answers were given, including a false one that said that the JWST was responsible for taking the "very first picture" of an outside-solar-system planet. NASA confirmed that the Very Large Telescope (VLT) from the European Southern Observatory was responsible for the first exoplanet pictures in 2004.
A Google spokesperson shared how the company will be combining feedback and testing to improve its AI tool.
Spokesperson: "We’ll combine external feedback with our own internal testing to make sure Bard’s responses meet a high bar for quality, safety and groundedness in real-world information."
The announcement of Google's Bard AI tool came shortly after Microsoft announced that ChatGPT has already been integrated into its products. The specific product mentioned was Teams Premium, but the company plans to add the AI tool to other products moving forward.
