GTA VI Hits ~4.6M Preorders Before Netflix Reveal: Sensor Tower
Sensor Tower estimates GTA VI has hit roughly 4.6 million preorders worth about $446 million in deferred gross revenue, with nearly 90% opting for the $100 Ultimate Edition ahead of the November launch.
Rockstar’s Take-Two Interactive title Grand Theft Auto VI is already pulling numbers that most publishers only dream about. Sensor Tower estimates GTA VI had about 4.6 million preorders ahead of the extended look, valued at roughly $446 million in deferred gross revenue.
The preorder setup
Sensor Tower had GTA 6 near 4.6 million preorders before the Netflix show even aired, with about 77% on PlayStation and close to 90% of buyers picking the $100 Ultimate Edition. That mix is what actually matters for margin.
Sensor Tower expects premium editions to account for a larger share early in a preorder period, but describes a premium share near 90% as highly unusual for this stage of a game’s preorder cycle.
The Netflix reveal moved the needle
New estimates from Sensor Tower show Grand Theft Auto VI preorders spiking more than 570% over the two days around the Netflix reveal, and the PlayStation lead only got wider.
On August 27, the day of the reveal, estimated preorders rose about 436% over the day before, sitting roughly 572% above the average day from the previous month through August 28. PlayStation drove most of it, up around 606%, while Xbox managed a 127% surge.

Why it matters for Take-Two
Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick has refused to call the preorder pace more than “unprecedented,” leaving investors to work off third-party estimates. With Sensor Tower pegging the mix at 90% Ultimate Edition, the average revenue per preorder is skewing closer to $100 than the $80 base tag.
Preorder numbers are expected to climb higher still, as experts believe the majority of preorders arrive in the last week or so before launch, and one analyst has said GTA 6 could hit 25 million preorders by launch, or roughly $2 billion in revenue.
The caveats
None of these are official numbers. Sensor Tower builds them from its own panel and modeling, though the firm’s estimates have been solid enough to take seriously.
On the latest earnings call, Take-Two said GTA 6 has had an “exceptional start to preorders,” but conspicuously declined to attach an actual number. Traders should treat the 4.6M figure as directional, not gospel.
Options market and stocks to watch
A few names tied to the GTA VI cycle worth keeping on the radar:
- TTWO: The direct beneficiary. Watch for options flow and IV behavior into the November 19 launch window.
- SONY: With 77% of preorders skewing PlayStation, watch for a hardware attach-rate tailwind and potential PS5 bundle activity.
- MSFT: Xbox is the trailing platform here. Watch for any Game Pass or first-party countermoves around the launch.
- NFLX: Rockstar used Netflix as the debut home for the extended look. Watch for follow-on gaming/IP tie-ins.
- EA: Watch for release-window competitive dynamics as publishers steer clear of the November GTA VI drop.
