Executives believe nearly half of the skills that exist in today’s workforce won’t be relevant just two years from now, thanks to artificial intelligence, per Forbes.
A recent survey conducted by edX, involving 800 executives and 800 employees, has revealed striking predictions regarding the future landscape of workplace skills. The survey indicates that nearly half of the existing workforce skills are anticipated to become obsolete within just two years, largely due to advancements in artificial intelligence.
Key findings from the survey include:
- Near-Total Transformation: Approximately 49% of the skills present in the current workforce are expected to lose relevance by 2025.
- AI's Impact on Jobs: More than half (56%) of entry-level knowledge worker roles are predicted to be eliminated over the next five years due to the influence of AI.
- C-Suite's AI Concerns: A significant 47% of C-Suite executives express the belief that most or all of the CEO role could be automated or replaced by AI. Interestingly, 49% of CEOs themselves share this perspective.
- Urgency to Adapt: An overwhelming 92% of executives recognize the importance of enhancing their AI skills within the next one to two years. Additionally, 79% express concerns that they may be unprepared for the future of work if they do not acquire proficiency in using AI.
