Iran Vows Decisive, Immediate, Painful, Lethal Response to Any US Attack

Iran just put the U.S. on notice.

In a statement Friday marking the second anniversary of Operation True Promise II, Iran's Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) declared that "the era of cost-free threats is over" and warned any act of aggression will draw a "painful and regret-inducing" response.

The force said it stands "with its finger on the trigger," fully prepared to respond "decisively, immediately, painfully and more lethally than Operation True Promise II" to any threat, aggression, or miscalculation by the United States and its regional proxies.

Two years since the missile waves

Operation True Promise II, launched in October 2024, saw Iran fire 200 missiles at Israeli military and intelligence bases. Tehran framed it as retaliation for the killings of Hamas political leader Ismail Haniyeh, Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah, and IRGC commander Abbas Nilforoushan.

It followed April 2024's Operation True Promise, when Iran launched more than 300 missiles and drones in response to the deadly strike on its diplomatic facilities in Damascus.

The new IRGC statement also claimed that the recent 12-day and 40-day rounds of fighting with the U.S. and Israel forced Washington to "beg for a ceasefire."

A third carrier group is en route

The warning lands as the U.S. is reportedly sending a third aircraft carrier strike group and as many as 10,000 additional troops to the Middle East, with President Trump said to be considering resuming strikes on Iran after the November midterms.

Brent crude fell about 0.7% on Friday to roughly $101.60 a barrel, but the benchmark gained nearly 5% on the week to around $102.25 and is up about 68% year to date. The 52-week high of $118.35 was hit on March 31, 2026.

China's major refiners suspended refined product exports for October, while the G7 agreed to consider releasing up to 100 million barrels of emergency oil and diesel reserves over four months to ease fuel costs.

The Strait of Hormuz remains the market's biggest fear. Any disruption there, or strikes on regional energy infrastructure, would hit global supply fast.

What this means for the market: oil, defense, and hedges

Oil is the direct play. Watch USO, the Energy Select Sector ETF (XLE), and majors like Exxon Mobil (XOM) and Chevron (CVX). A genuine escalation, especially anything touching Hormuz, would likely send crude screaming higher and drag refiners and airlines with it.

Defense names stay bid in this tape: Lockheed Martin (LMT), RTX (RTX), and Northrop Grumman (NOC) tend to catch flows on every escalation headline.

For hedges, traders typically rotate into gold via GLD and watch volatility positioning for the next spike. If strikes actually resume, expect implied volatility in crude options to blow out, and unusual call flow in the energy complex to light up.
