Jack Dorsey Told Elon Musk 'I Trust You' a Year Before $44B Deal

Per Business Insider

Jack Dorsey once sent a private text to Elon Musk saying "I trust you" even a year before the $44 billion Twitter deal.

  • Dorsey: "It can't be a company. That's why I left."
  • Musk: "What should it look like?"
  • Dorsey: Twitter should have been an "open-sourced protocol... like what Signal has done... can't have an advertising model"
  • Musk: "I'd like to help if I'm able."

Dorsey wanted Musk to join the board but upon request for approval, the board said no. The situation made the Twitter co-founder decide he "needed to work to leave."

Musk asked to speak to Dorsey in private after April 5 when he made a deal with Twitter to join its board just a day after his 9%+ stake became public.
