Japan will help Ukraine by extending a $5.5 billion financial aid

The Prime Minister of Japan, Fumio Kishida, has announced that the country will be extending financial aid worth $5.5 billion to Ukraine. The announcement was given during the G-7 summit, where Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy was in attendance.
The Prime Minister gave a statement sharing how it aims to help as Japan has joined the US and other European nations in imposing sanctions on Russia. The country reacted due to concerns about the war's impact in East Asia.
Kishida: “Japan is in a position to lead the world’s efforts to support Ukraine in its fight against Russian aggression and to uphold a free and open international order based on the rule of law,”
Per CNN, Japan previously committed pledges worth $600 million to send to Kyiv in financial assistance. It also announced humanitarian aid, which included food assistance and medical supplies worth $700 million.
The Prime Minister shared how the situation in Ukraine was a problem for the international community and that the international community faces a huge threat.
Kishida: “Russia’s aggression against Ukraine is not just a European matter, but a challenge to the rules and principles of the entire international community... Due to Russia’s actions, the world now faces a real threat from nuclear weapons,”
The news of Japan's new aid comes as Biden paid a surprise visit to Ukraine, announcing an additional $460 million in aid. The US President also made an announcement during his visit regarding democracy.
Biden: "One year later, Kyiv stands... And Ukraine stands. Democracy stands.”
US Secretary of State Antony Blinken shared how an additional $10 million was extended for emergency assistance.
This comes shortly after the US officially warned its citizens to get out of Russia immediately. The warning was also for people that planned to visit, saying citizens should "not travel to Russia," said citizens have been arrested.
