JD Vance: 'Wouldn't be shocked if we're living in the end times'
VP JD Vance told a Christian podcaster he wouldn't be shocked if we're in the end times, that the antichrist may be among us, and called some AI uses 'satanic.'
Vice President JD Vance told a Christian podcaster he would not be surprised if the world is already in the biblical end times, and said he is fine with it if his work in office helps bring them about. The comments, made while promoting his new memoir on his Catholic conversion, also touched on the antichrist and what he described as the “dark energy” around parts of the AI industry.
What Vance actually said
Vance said he wouldn’t be “shocked” if we were living in the “end times” and the Antichrist was walking the Earth, in a wide-ranging interview on faith with Christian podcaster Bryce Crawford.
“While I wouldn’t be shocked if we are living in the end times, what I’m trying to focus on is doing as much of God’s work as possible right now, and if that leads to the end times, OK,” Vance said.
The vice president isn’t sure if we’re living in the end times, but he’s not afraid to bring them about either, telling the 22-year-old evangelist podcaster he’s “OK” if his work on earth brings about a biblical doomsday event.
The AI angle
Vance, who like President Donald Trump has been a proponent of building data centers to support AI development, pointed to some uses of AI as having “really, really weird spiritual dark energy.” He cited a friend whose spouse was using AI for marriage counseling as an example.
Vance said there are times when he feels a “certain darkness” about comments some world leaders make and also said there is some really weird spiritual dark energy surrounding some of the things AI companies are doing, claiming some hold a “burial” when they retire an older AI model.

Why traders should care
The White House has been a vocal backer of the domestic AI buildout, so a sitting VP describing parts of the AI industry as “satanic” is a notable tone shift, even if delivered in a religious context. Any softening of political air cover for hyperscaler capex plans is worth tracking.
Vance also said the end times “are coming, it’s just a question of whether they’re coming thousands of years down the road, or a few months down the road,” a framing that will get quoted well beyond the faith podcast circuit. For more headlines, see other news here.
Options market and stocks to watch
Watch for reaction in the names most tied to the AI capex trade and to political sentiment around Big Tech:
- NVDA: watch for any flow response as the White House’s tone on AI ethics becomes a talking point.
- MSFT and GOOGL: watch for headline risk tied to data-center buildouts and AI product rollouts.
- META: watch for any commentary linking AI companion products to the “dark energy” framing.
- PLTR: watch as a politically sensitive AI name that trades on Washington narrative.
