Jensen Huang: Develop AI ‘As Fast As We Can,’ Rejects Slowdown Calls

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang is drawing a hard line in the AI safety debate. He told CBS News that when asked if AI development needs to slow down, his answer was that the industry should go as fast as it can, irrespective of anybody else.

What Huang actually said

Speaking in an excerpt from a CBS News interview, Huang argued against calls to slow frontier AI progress while stressing that companies must not put out unsafe products, and he was asked whether slowing development could affect competition with China.

Huang added that Nvidia would never ship products before they are ready or deliver anything unsafe, and that everyone expects the company to succeed and help America be as prosperous as possible.

The pushback he is responding to

Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei recently said the industry lied to people about the risks of the technology, described its development as exponential, and warned it is a sign the industry needs to slow down.

Amodei has also called for independent third-party evaluators to assess AI companies’ safety practices and urged companies to work together on common safety standards. Former Anthropic researcher Jacob Coxon publicly resigned this month, arguing AI companies are rushing to innovate at the expense of security protocols and warning the technology could one day pose a threat to humanity.

Why it matters for the trade

Nvidia is the world’s most valuable company, with a market cap above $5 trillion, and its growth has been driven by the AI boom. Any regulatory push to slow frontier model development would hit demand for the GPUs sitting at the center of that boom.

Huang’s stance also lines up with the current Washington posture. Huang appears to share a position similar to President Donald Trump on pacing the technological frontier, with Trump having used Truth Social to reject calls to slow down AI development.

Options market and stocks to watch

Watch NVDA for flow around any headline risk tied to AI regulation, as Huang is now the loudest voice in the accelerationist camp.

Watch AMD and AVGO as the other primary beneficiaries of continued frontier-model buildout, and MSFT and GOOGL as hyperscalers whose capex plans depend on the same ‘go fast’ posture.
