Kamala Harris called Trump "to congratulate him on winning the 2024 presidential election"
President Joe Biden is scheduled to address the nation on Thursday to discuss the election results and the transition process, the White House announced.
Earlier in the day, Biden called Vice President Kamala Harris to commend her on her historic campaign and also reached out to President-elect Donald Trump to congratulate him on his victory.
Additionally, Biden extended an invitation for Trump to visit the White House. The staff will work to coordinate a specific meeting date in the near future, according to the White House.
In a dramatic political resurgence, Trump secured all seven key battleground states, surpassing the 270 electoral vote threshold and clinching a decisive victory. Vice President Harris is set to deliver remarks at Howard University, her alma mater, at 4 p.m., the White House added.
Howard University hosted an Election Night watch party, where Harris had planned to address attendees once the results were confirmed. However, the results were not finalized until the early morning hours. Had she been elected, Harris would have been the first graduate of a Historically Black College or University (HBCU) to serve as president.
