Ken Griffin has expressed his belief that Miami holds the key to the future of America and has the potential to surpass New York as a financial hub. The founder of Citadel hedge fund, currently constructing a $1 billion headquarters in Miami's Brickell Bay district, suggested that the city, often dubbed "Wall Street South," could outpace its northern counterpart.
Griffin highlighted Florida's pro-business political climate as conducive to growth and speculated that in the future, Brickell Bay might be referred to as "Brickell Bay North," akin to New York's prominence in finance. Despite his optimism for Miami, Griffin acknowledged New York as the "epicenter of thoughtful people passionately engaged in their careers" and noted Citadel's plans for a new skyscraper in the city. Citadel relocated from Chicago to Miami last year, citing Chicago's crime rate as a significant factor in the decision.
The move aligns with a broader trend of major business figures, such as Amazon's Jeff Bezos, expressing enthusiasm for Miami's appeal. Bezos recently announced his intention to move to Miami from Seattle, citing proximity to family and favorable tax conditions in Florida as driving factors.
