Mark Zuckerberg's metaverse mentions are dropping as the company focuses more on how AI can improve its ads business

Per Business Insider

Once upon a time, the metaverse was one of the only things Mark Zuckerberg could talk about, but now, the Meta CEO barely even mentions it. Even after renaming the company after the metaverse, in a recent note, "AI" was mentioned twice as many times as the "metaverse."

In a recent note, Zuckerberg only mentioned "AI" four times while mentioning the "metaverse" twice. These were over the company's 2,000-word note, which details the company's intentions to focus more on AI.

The Meta CEO revealed that AI was being built into all of their products and that he was positive about the experiences that it is expected to enable. The company also wants to focus on AI in its Q4 full-year earnings.

Zuckerberg: "We have the infrastructure to do this at unprecedented scale and I think the experiences it enables will be amazing,"

In a recent call with Wall Street analysts, Zuckerberg focused more on AI, mentioning it half a dozen times, compared to the metaverse, which wasn't mentioned at all. So far, AI is already being used by Meta to help improve its ad business targeting capabilities.

Zuckerberg: "In our Year of Efficiency, we are focused on canceling projects that are duplicative or lower priority and making every organization as lean as possible,"

Recently, Mark Zuckerberg warned that the company should prepare for a "new economic reality" that is expected to last for years. The company left 5,000 unfilled roles empty after its massive layoffs around different departments.

In November, Meta announced CICERO, an AI that was reportedly capable of human-level performance in a game that required negotiating. The AI was able to take first place in an eight-game tournament that involved 21 participants.

The game is called Diplomacy, and the AI could pass as a human player against 82 unique players.
