New York air quality second worst in world due to Canadian wild fires
The Big Apple was ranked number one for the worst air quality in the world at 2pm local time on Wednesday with the Air Quality Index (AQI) at 342 - with the air pollution level described as “hazardous”.
New Yorkers were advised to limit their time outdoors and wear masks to protect themselves from the smoke while schools cancelled outdoor activities, including recess and gym classes.
The Air Quality Index is currently at “unhealthy” levels across New York and other major cities as public officials encourage residents to limit outdoor activities ”to the absolute necessities”.
