New York State has begun mailing its first-ever inflation refund checks, up to $400, to 8.2 million households
New York State is set to begin mailing its first-ever inflation refund checks to 8.2 million households.
Eligibility requires filing form IT-201 for the 2023 tax year, having income within the qualifying thresholds, and not being claimed as a dependent on another taxpayer’s return.
Joint filers with incomes up to $150,000 will receive $400. Those with incomes above $150,000 but not exceeding $300,000 will receive $300. Single filers earning up to $75,000 will get $200, while those making between $75,000 and $150,000 will receive $150.
There are no age requirements, and recipients do not need to take any action to obtain the refund.
Checks will begin going out statewide on Friday and continue through October and November.
Governor Kathy Hochul launched the initiative as part of her broader effort to ease financial pressures on New Yorkers.
“I’ll never stop fighting to help your family address the rising cost of living — and that’s why I also delivered on my promise to cut taxes for the middle class, expand the child tax credit, and ensure free school meals for every student,” Hochul said.
