New York Stock Exchange plans to extend weekday trading on its NYSE Arca equities exchange to 22 hours a day

The New York Stock Exchange announced on Friday its plans to extend weekday trading on its NYSE Arca equities exchange to 22 hours a day.

As part of Intercontinental Exchange, the NYSE stated that the new trading hours would run from 1:30 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. Eastern Time, Monday through Friday, on its fully electronic platform, NYSE Arca.

Kevin Tyrrell, Head of Markets at NYSE, remarked, "The NYSE's move to expand U.S. equity trading to 22 hours a day, five days a week, highlights the strength of our U.S. capital markets and the increasing global demand for our listed securities."

The exchange also noted that it will seek backing from U.S. securities information processors for the extended trading hours.

These changes will involve updated regulatory rules, and the NYSE plans to submit an updated framework to the Securities and Exchange Commission.
