Nissan will be the first Japanese automaker to adapt Tesla's EV charging standard in the US and Canada

Per Reuters

Nissan will be the first Japanese automaker to adapt Tesla's EV charging standard in the US and Canada. The implementation would start in 2025, where the company would equip Tesla's North American Charging Standard (NACS) port.

Nissan would be joining American rivals like Rivian, Ford, and General Motors, all of which have already decided to adapt the NACS port standard. In 2024, the company would be equipping its Ariya EV models with NACs chargers.

So far, Tesla's Superchargers account for the majority of total US fast chargers at 60%. This was according to the US Department of Energy.

In February, it was reported that the White House asked for Elon Musk's help for its EV charging station expansion despite Biden previously not mentioning Tesla. This meeting came after Musk said that Tesla was ignored and more attention was given to "other legacy auto makers" despite the company owning the majority of charging stations in the US.

In April, it was reported taht Walmart planned for thousands of its US stores to offer EV charging in 2030. This comes as the company wants to add another potential profit driver while catering to the growing EV market as the EV industry in the US is starting to pick up.
