Nvidia, NVDA, CEO has said: If I were a 20-year-old again today, I would focus on physics in college
Nvidia’s 61-year-old CEO shared his thoughts on this during a visit to Beijing on Wednesday, according to CNBC. Jensen Huang, who completed his undergraduate degree by age 20—two years ahead of schedule—and now leads the world’s most valuable company, reflected that the “20-year-old Jensen” would have “probably chosen more of the physical sciences” rather than focusing on “the software sciences.”
Physical sciences refer to fields that study inanimate natural systems, such as physics, chemistry, and earth science. In contrast, software sciences encompass areas like computer science and artificial intelligence engineering.
Interestingly, Huang didn’t major in either. His LinkedIn profile shows he earned a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from Oregon State University in 1984, followed by a Master’s in the same discipline from Stanford University in 1992. Electrical engineering focuses on creating the physical hardware that supports the work of software developers.

Huang didn’t explain why he would have favored physical sciences over software, but he has previously commented that AI levels the playing field in software development, enabling even those without coding experience to produce software. At London Tech Week last month, he remarked that anyone can now write code using natural language to prompt AI.
“There’s a new programming language,” Huang said at the event. “This programming language is called ‘human.’”
