Nvidia, Palantir, Booz Allen and Pentagon Curb Anthropic Model Use
Nvidia, Palantir, Booz Allen and the Pentagon are curbing use of Anthropic models over data and IP concerns, with the DOD moving 90% of classified AI workloads off Anthropic systems.
Some of the biggest names in AI and defense are pulling back on Anthropic. Nvidia, Palantir Technologies and Booz Allen Hamilton are tightening their use of advanced AI models over concerns about exposing sensitive corporate information, demanding stronger guarantees or dropping some advanced models from Anthropic and OpenAI, per The Information.
The Pentagon is moving in the same direction, and the reaction in AI-linked names on Monday shows the market is paying attention.
What is actually happening
Palantir, Nvidia, and Booz Allen Hamilton are restricting or threatening to drop advanced AI models from Anthropic and OpenAI unless the labs provide stronger data protections. The core concern is that model providers could retain or extract value from customers’ sensitive corporate information.
Nvidia limits Anthropic’s use to less sensitive tasks and relies on its own Nemotron models for internal work, while Booz Allen has barred employees from using Anthropic’s commercial model for proprietary cybersecurity work. Palantir has pressed Anthropic to provide guarantees of zero data retention before making its models available through Palantir’s software.
The Pentagon angle
The Department of Defense designated Anthropic a national security supply-chain risk in early 2026, citing the company’s refusal to grant unrestricted access to its models for all lawful government use cases, and by mid-September 2026 the DOD had migrated roughly 90% of its classified AI workloads off Anthropic’s closed-source systems.
Government agencies want AI models they can inspect, audit, and deploy without restrictions on lawful applications, and Anthropic’s usage policies, which prohibit categories like mass surveillance and autonomous lethal systems, created friction with defense customers who view those guardrails as an unacceptable dependency on a private company’s ethical framework.

Anthropic’s response
Anthropic responded by announcing Enterprise Frontier Safeguards, a system that allows enterprise customers to store activity data in their own cloud infrastructure, including Amazon S3, Azure Blob Storage, or Google Cloud Storage, under their own encryption keys, with automated safety monitoring still scanning for misuse but no human review by Anthropic employees required. The system is rolling out to customers in phases, with broader availability targeted for later this fall.
Both AI labs say they do not train on customer data by default unless companies opt in, though they collect anonymized metadata to improve products.
Why it matters for the trade
This is a story about who controls the AI stack inside sensitive workflows. Enterprise and defense customers are pushing frontier labs to give up data leverage, and the ones with in-house or sovereign alternatives, like Nvidia’s Nemotron, are pitching those as the safer path.
On September 10, 2026, Nvidia and Palantir announced a partnership focused on sovereign AI solutions for supply chains, with Nvidia’s contribution centered on its Nemotron family. That partnership now looks like the commercial answer to the Anthropic pullback.
Options market and stocks to watch
Watch for continued flow and headline sensitivity in the following names:
- NVDA: Watch for reaction as Nemotron gets positioned as the sovereign, enterprise-safe alternative. Nvidia shares fell about 3% Monday amid a broader selloff in AI-linked stocks.
- PLTR: Watch for how Palantir’s zero-retention demands and its Nvidia partnership feed into defense AI narrative flows.
- BAH: Watch for read-through on defense IT budgets as Booz Allen tightens Anthropic use on cybersecurity work.
- MSFT: Microsoft is capitalizing on such concerns by pitching isolated cloud environments and its own AI offerings to draw clients.
- GOOGL and AMZN: Watch as their cloud storage layers (Azure alternatives, S3) get name-checked in Anthropic’s new enterprise data controls.
