OpenAI ChatGPT Bing version gets web searching capabilities
Per Tech Crunch
OpenAI's ChatGPT was once limited to data up to September 2021 but with a new version of the chatbot from Bing, the artificial intelligence tool was equipped with new web searching capabilities. This came via an OpenAI announcement that shared how the AI-powered chatbot now searches the web for answers via Bing.
These capabilities come when users switch from GPT-4 to Browse with Bing in the app setting's New Features. This feature is also available on the ChatGPT iOS and Android version.
This comes as a change to previous serach results from Microsoft, wherein a study by Stanford showed that the level of disinformation at the top search result of Bing was "alarming." In 2011, another study by Search Engine Land said that Bing was potentially serving search results that were more Microsoft-related.
In February, Microsoft's CEO said they hoped the new Bing would make Google "dance" as the company brings OpenAI abilities. This came as the competition started to heat up between Microsoft and Google regarding their browsers.
While Google tried to compete with its Apprentice Bard chatbot, its launch immediately came with inaccurate info regarding the James Webb Space Telescope in company advertisements.
