OpenAI launches ChatGPT Gov for US government agencies
OpenAI Unveils ChatGPT Gov for U.S. Government Agencies
Microsoft-backed OpenAI has introduced ChatGPT Gov, a specialized version of its AI chatbot designed for U.S. government agencies, the company announced in a blog post on Tuesday.
According to OpenAI, government agencies will be able to deploy ChatGPT Gov within their own Microsoft Azure commercial cloud, gaining access to many of the advanced features available in ChatGPT Enterprise, including the ability to create custom GPTs.
Launch Coincides with Rising AI Competition
The launch of ChatGPT Gov came just hours after OpenAI CEO Sam Altman posted on X, hinting that the company would "pull up some releases." This was Altman’s first public statement following a major shake-up in the AI industry on Monday, when low-cost Chinese AI startup DeepSeek caused AI-related stocks to tumble.
DeepSeek Disrupts AI Market
DeepSeek, which Altman referred to as OpenAI’s "new competitor," surged in popularity after its free AI assistant outpaced ChatGPT in downloads from Apple’s App Store.
The unexpected rise of DeepSeek has intensified investor scrutiny on U.S. tech giants, particularly regarding the billions of dollars being poured into AI expansion. As competition in the AI sector continues to heat up, OpenAI’s latest move with ChatGPT Gov signals its ongoing push to solidify its foothold in government and enterprise AI solutions.
