Oracle will 'soon' gain access to TikTok's source code, algorithm, and content-moderation material

Per Bloomberg

As TikTok is trying to devise ways to alleviate concerns, specifically regarding national security, it was reported that the platform would 'soon' give access to critical parts of the app to Oracle. These include access to TikTok's source code, algorithm, and content-moderation material.

TikTok also announced how Oracle will start monitoring the flow of data and ensuring that it is in a "secure environment." The secure environment referred to its setup on servers, which were designed to cater to data from US users.

The move comes amid TikTok facing federal and state-level legislation that wants to ban the use of the app in the US ultimately. The US government is trying to ban the app mainly because of national security concerns.

TikTok issued a statement sharing how they will work with Oracle to find a situation. The app also noted that they want to ensure that the inspection goes well without interrupting the user experience of US users.

TikTok: “Both TikTok and Oracle are continuing to work towards a solution with the US government... Our teams have been working together on all TikTok software that Oracle will ultimately inspect and continually monitor, while ensuring US users have an uninterrupted experience.”

Recently, TikTok has been trying to fight back against Montana, which has recently passed a state law that would ban the use of the app within its state. The platform is filing a lawsuit citing alleged violations of the First Amendment.

The lawsuit was filed with the United States District Court for the District of Montana. ByteDance, the parent company of TikTok, says that the ban was "unlawful" and violated the US Constitution itself.

In December, Forbes released a report sharing how TikTok spied on its journalists by listening to audio and following keystrokes. The app denied that this happened but also decided to fire four of its employees.
