PGA Tour merges with competitor LIV Golf: Agreement includes DP World Tour
Per CNBC
PGA Tour is merging with LIV Golf in a deal including the DP World Tour (European PGA Tour). This comes despite the lawsuits between the two and how LIV was backed by the Saudi Arabia Public Investment Fund (PIF).
The deal between the two comes despite LIV Golf being the subject of antitrust lawsuits with the PGA Tour, and with the new deal, all pending litigations would come to an end.
The agreement would combine the two's commercial businesses and the rights of a new company which would be categorized as a for-profit business.
Recently, Brooks Koepka, a LIV golfer, won the PGA Championships. PGA TOUR Commissioner Jay Monahan gave a statement regarding the merging of the two competitors.
Monahan: “This transformational partnership recognizes the immeasurable strength of the PGA TOUR’s history, legacy and pro-competitive model and combines with it the DP World Tour and LIV – including the team golf concept – to create an organization that will benefit golf’s players, commercial and charitable partners and fans."
